John 1-1:5
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

“He commanded and they were created.” (Psalm 148:5.) We learn, lastly, that the Lord Jesus Christ is the source of all spiritual life and light. John tells us, that “in Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” He is the eternal fountain, from which alone the sons of men have ever derived life. Whatever spiritual life and light Adam and Eve possessed before the fall, was from Christ. Whatever deliverance from sin and spiritual death any child of Adam has ever enjoyed since the fall, whatever light of conscience or understanding any one has obtained, all has flowed from Christ.
It is amazing to see when the Word became flesh, into this world which He created… the world recognized him not. “But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.” – Luke 24:16
“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.” – John 5:39-40
According to John, Jesus (the Word) existed before everything began, because He made them all and He is the source of all spiritual life, and being obedient to the Father, the creator and source of everything laid down His life to save (His creation) that is you and me, whom He created.
All things were made through Him (the Word who became flesh, which is Jesus)… therefore we owe all to Christ.
