God will show His goodness, grace, mercy and blessings to us when our will is shattered; our actual will becomes His will; our will becoming like His will; His will molded to ours; our will is in accordance to His. This is the very reason why Jesus said “But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33). This formula will never work if our will is rooted in our fleshly desires and worldly motives. God cannot give us the “all these things” that are rooted in world and flesh, this will contradict God’s character and nature because His will is not of this world.
Some believers think that God is a genie from whom we can ask for material things, blessings, prosperity in life, all our wants, and all our desires without scrutinizing our motives and will. Of course God will give all these things to us, God wants us to enjoy… but for what purpose? For whose glory? For whose kingdom? For whose righteousness?
We don’t seek His kingdom and righteousness for the comfort of in this life, for Jesus Himself had no place to lay His head (Matthew 8:20) and yet He became a comfort to others. Jesus is our only comfort in life and He said “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33).
We don’t seek His kingdom and righteousness for material blessings or prosperity for Jesus Himself said “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Mark 10:21). Jesus wants us to be empty, so we will be dependent only on Him exercising faith, just like what Paul said, “The righteous will live by faith.” (Romans 1:17). God knows the things that we need according to His purpose, riches and His glory so we are called not to worry in this life.
So what is the cost of seeking His righteousness and Kingdom? If not the comfort, riches, glory and prosperity in this world and in this life, then what is this “ALL THESE THINGS”?
“All these things” are everything that we need and everything that we will ever need in this life as we follow Christ as we pursue His righteousness and His Kingdom by conducting ourselves in righteousness of Christ as we carry out the great commission that is given to us to advance His Kingdom for His glory.
And because we choose to seek His Kingdom and righteousness and to follow Christ, we will be a sheep among the wolves; we will be hated and persecuted, therefore God will give the “all these things”: “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22) It is also said in Galatians, “Against such things there is no law.”
We seek His kingdom and His righteousness so that our will becomes His will; our lives will be driven by His will; our mind becoming of that of Christ.
PEACE & BLESSING!
